Assistant Chief of Police


Major John Hendricks was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police for the Town of Irmo in November of 2021. Major Hendricks has spent his entire Law Enforcement career with the Irmo Police Department since he was hired in 2008.  Before becoming a Police Officer, Major Hendricks worked as an educator at a local private school.

During his time at the Irmo Police Department, Major Hendricks has served in the Patrol Division both as a rookie officer and later as a Patrol Sergeant. He also served as an Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division. Before being named as Assistant Chief of Police, Major Hendricks was the Sergeant of the Community Services Division.

Major Hendricks has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice which helped pave the way for his career in Law Enforcement. This, along with the skills he has developed while working in various divisions within the Irmo Police Department, has helped prepare him for a lifetime of public service.  In addition to his duties within the Police Department itself, Major Hendricks is also the Vice President of the Irmo Police Department Community Foundation.

Major Hendricks is a long-suffering fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, and a lifelong resident of South Carolina. Major Hendricks lives in the Blythewood area with his wife and two sons.
